Phyllostachys nigra, also called black bamboo, is a small-diameter, thin-walled bamboo species native to China. This naturally dark-coloured bamboo is the most popular bamboo for decorative woodwork.

Uses

• Phyllostachys nigra has a natural brownish-black colour. It is not dyed or scorched.
• Black bamboo with a smaller diameter is generally darker in colour than that with a larger diameter.
• The black bamboo pole tapers along its full length due to the natural growth of this species.
• All species belonging to the Phyllostachys genus have a tendency to crack lengthwise along the cane. This is caused by changes in humidity and temperature during use and cannot be 100% prevented.
