Bamboo fencing and bamboo screening are basically the same thing. Bamboo fencing is typically installed on wooden posts, while screening is attached directly to the surface you’re fixing it to.

There are two general rules to keep in mind before installing a bamboo fence roll. First of all, remember that one side of a bamboo fence roll shows all the naturally exposed ends of the bamboo canes; this is the top of the fence and should face upward.

Second, you should always try to leave a minimum 2 cm gap between a bamboo fence and the ground, to avoid direct contact with wet soil, as this can cause black spots over time. You can rest the fencing roll on a wooden plank while installing it on the fence.

To install a bamboo fence roll against an existing wall or wooden fence, drill 4 mm holes through the bamboo canes using our special 4 mm bamboo drill bit. Do this every 20 cm in the horizontal direction, and fix the bamboo fence with 4 x 50 mm screws. Repeat this at the top, middle, and bottom of the fence for maximum stability. Do not use excessive force when tightening the screws, to avoid damaging the bamboo canes.
Installing a bamboo fence roll against a chain-link fence is done using double-loop ties or cable ties. Wrap the wire ties around the galvanized steel wire that runs through the bamboo canes, and tighten them to the metal chain-link fence.

Adjusting the size of a bamboo fence roll

A big advantage of bamboo is that it’s easy to work with. You can simply adjust the width of a bamboo fence roll by unwinding the galvanized steel wires at the sides of the roll. Pull out as many canes as you need, and twist the steel wires back into place!
To adjust the height of the fence, you can trim the bottom of the bamboo canes with a fine-tooth saw blade. Make sure to trim the bottom part and not the naturally closed top of the fence. For the perfect result, it can also be a good idea to wrap strong tape around the bamboo canes before cutting them to size, to avoid frayed edges.

How to install a bamboo reed fence

Bamboo reed fencing comes in long rolls that can be attached to an existing fence. This is an economical way to hide an old, ugly fence or give more privacy to a chain-link fence. It’s important to have a sturdy structure when installing bamboo reed fencing, so that it can withstand all kinds of weather. A few important steps should be taken when attaching bamboo reed fencing to an existing fence.

Instructions

• Measure your existing fence and decide how many rolls or sections of bamboo reed fencing you want to use.
• Check the strength of your existing fence and locate the horizontal support rails, top and bottom. Depending on the height of your existing fence and your new bamboo fence, you’ll need horizontal support rails at the top and bottom of your existing structure to attach the bamboo fence to. If you don’t have support rails, you can add horizontal wood or bamboo rails to your existing structure by screwing them into your existing posts. Simply mounting a bamboo fence on wire fencing without support rails won’t make it sturdy enough to withstand wind and other elements.
• Cut 8-10 inch pieces of galvanized wire with pliers; you’ll use this wire to attach the bamboo fence to your existing structure. Depending on the size of your existing structure, cut enough pieces to place them every 4 to 6 inches along the bottom, top, and middle. Longer pieces work well for securing the bamboo fence, while shorter pieces are used to attach the bamboo fence to the existing fence structure.
Start attaching the bamboo reed fence to your first galvanized wire fence post. Make sure to feed both ends of the galvanized wire through the existing wire of your bamboo reed fence, then wrap it around the fence post on the hidden side. Use pliers to pull the two ends of the galvanized wire tight, and twist them until the connection is secure. Be sure to use at least three pieces of wire on each post, and make sure your fence is straight.

• Roll your bamboo reed fence out to the next fence post, then go back and secure it every 4 to 6 inches at the top, bottom, and middle, until you reach the next fence post. Use the same pliers technique you used on the fence posts to attach it to the support rails. Be careful not to pull too hard when pushing the galvanized wire through the wire of the bamboo reed fence. Pulling too hard can damage the bamboo and puncture a hole in the fence.
Continue rolling out your bamboo fence and securing it to your existing fence until you reach the end. Make sure the bamboo reed fencing is both secure and straight. When you reach the end of a roll, simply attach the next roll and continue along the fence. You don’t need to attach each roll of bamboo reed fencing to the previous one.
